Cool Runnings Never Looked This Good
There’s something undeniably special about a movie under the stars - salt in the air, sand underfoot, and that golden-hour glow slipping into night.

This June, Moffat Beach is turning that magic up a notch with the return of Moffat Beach: Sunset Cinema, a free, family-friendly outdoor screening set to light up Eleanor Shipley Park in one of Caloundra’s most picturesque coastal pockets.
On Saturday 13 June 2026 from 4pm, locals and visitors are invited to roll out their picnic rugs and settle in for a screening of the cult-classic feel-good film Cool Runnings. It’s an event that blends nostalgia, community and seaside charm into one unforgettable winter evening.

Few films bring the same level of joy as Cool Runnings. With its humour, heart and underdog spirit, the story of the unlikely Jamaican bobsled team has become a favourite across generations. Watching it outdoors, with the sound of the ocean as your soundtrack and a sky full of stars overhead, takes the experience to another level.
It’s the kind of movie that sparks laughter, cheers and shared moments - making it perfect for families, groups of friends, or anyone in for a relaxed night out with a dose of nostalgia.
While the film is the main event, the real magic of Moffat Beach: Sunset Cinema lies in the lead-up. From 4pm, the vibe starts to build as attendees arrive early to soak in the atmosphere and make the most of everything Moffat Beach has to offer.
Just a short stroll away, the Seaview Terrace business strip will be ready to deliver on all your pre-movie snacks and dinner items. Think classic fish and chips by the ocean, stacked burgers, loaded fries, fresh salads, or something a little more indulgent like a grazing box or cheese board, we could go on and on. If your taste leans toward something lighter, think matchas, smoothies, or a perfectly brewed coffee to ease you into the evening.
It’s a chance to support local businesses while curating your own perfect movie-night feast - no overpriced cinema snacks here, just quality coastal eats made for sharing and you get to support some of the most resilient business owners on the Coast.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic rug, cushions, or low chairs and create their own comfortable spot on the grass. It’s casual, flexible, and made for lingering.
Kids can stretch out, families can settle in together, and groups can carve out their own little pocket of space to relax, chat and enjoy the lead-up before the screen lights up. As the sun dips and the sky shifts from pastel hues to deep blue, the atmosphere becomes that special Moffs fairy floss sunset.
In a time where nights out can quickly add up, Moffat Beach: Sunset Cinema is a reminder that some of the best experiences are still simple, and free. Thanks to local support and a focus on community activation, this event is open to everyone. That said, capacity in the event space is limited. While tickets won’t cost you anything, it's preferred for logistics that you register. Events like this tend to fill quickly, so organisers are encouraging people to register early to avoid missing out.
Beyond the movie, Moffat Beach: Sunset Cinema is part of a broader push to bring people together and keep Moffat Beach buzzing with life through the cooler months. Supporting our small local businesses and enjoy the kind of laidback, high-quality lifestyle that makes this coastal town so special.
Sometimes, it’s as simple as a rug on the grass, good food in hand, and a crowd of smiling faces gathered for a story we all love.
