Beachfest: Sunshine, Chrome, And Massive Crowds

If there is ever a weekend that proves Caloundra knows how to show up, it's Beachfest weekend.

The 2026 Beachfest weekend has now been and gone. From Wednesday 27 May through to Sunday 31 May 2026, the Sunshine Coast transformed into a high-energy hub of chrome and coast-wide celebration - delivering some serious nostalgia, and a powerful economic boost for the region.

A weekend of near-perfect weather set the tone, with blue bird skies and the warm autumn sun creating the conditions event planners can only dream of. It didn’t just look good - it felt good, with visitors flocking in from across Australia and beyond.

Tens of thousands of attendees made their way into the region for the 5 day Beachfest event, with the buzz stretching far beyond Caloundra’s CBD, rippling across the wider Sunshine Coast. A strong surge in retail spending was coupled with increased accommodation bookings and thriving food and beverage trade, further cementing Beachfest as a key economic driver for the region.

While the energy built steadily across the week, Saturday delivered the headline moment.

Main streets were packed, footpaths pulsed with activity and every corner of the CBD felt alive as record crowd numbers flooded Caloundra. Attendees were in Caloundra for car spotting, café hopping and soaking up the atmosphere, there was no missing the scale of it.

Sunday held its own too, closing out the festival with another huge turnout that kept the momentum strong right through to the final hours.

From pristine classics to muscle icons and custom builds, Beachfest’s drawcard is its vehicles and 2026 delivered in spades.

This year saw:

  • 650 registered entrants
  • Vehicles travelling from Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania
  • Two cars crossing the Tasman from New Zealand
  • A dedicated group of 15 NZ spectators, who extended their stay to properly experience the Sunshine Coast

It's these statistics that show Beachfest is a destination event.

Beyond the display cars, Beachfest built a full itinerary that kept both registrants and spectators engaged across the week.

Beachfest kicked off with a Wednesday night welcome event in Caloundra, setting the tone early. Local businesses opening their doors created a vibrant, community-led atmosphere that immediately made visitors feel at home.

A standout highlight for the registrants came on Thursday evening with the sponsor event at Bowden’s Own in Warana, which registrants consistently praised as a key moment of shared passion.

Friday night’s SuperCruise delivered both buzz and structure, with a formal road closure ensuring safety while allowing the experience to shine. Spectators lined the streets, and notably, organisers praised the well-behaved and engaged crowd, helping create a welcoming and respectful environment.

Behind the scenes, organisers were clear in their appreciation - thanking:

  • The Caloundra community for hosting the event in our picturesque location
  • Local business owners for accommodating the influx of visitors
  • Volunteers, Sunshine Coast Council, and QPS for logistics and safety
  • Stakeholders and partners across the region
  • And importantly, the registrants and spectators, whose respectful behaviour elevated the event vibe

It’s this collective effort that keeps Beachfest firmly positioned as a flagship annual event for Caloundra.

For local operators, the numbers told the story.
Monique and Matt, owners of Drift Bar and Greedy Gringo, provided an insight into business during Beachfest:
“Matt and I believe this event is absolutely fantastic for the Caloundra business community and is fantastic in showcasing our town. We believe everything should be done to ensure Caloundra never loses this event.
Beachfest was absolutely fantastic for our business. Not only the daily trade, but the larger awareness this provides for our town. It was noticed that Bowden’s Own went above and beyond with their efforts for the event.”

Meanwhile, Craig Williams from Thirsty Beaver described the scale as one of the biggest in years:
“The turn out was incredible, in my opinion the largest Caloundra has seen at this event since 2018 - the weather absolutely turned it on.
The improvements I have been gradually making to my business allowed for the additional footfall to be catered for. It was a huge weekend”

The Beachfest event continues to strike that balance between activation and authenticity. While the polished cars may be the initial drawcard, the real impact runs much deeper - bringing new visitors into the region, encouraging them to linger a little longer and, in many cases, return again. This sustained visitation translates directly into meaningful spend across local businesses, from cafés and restaurants to retail and accommodation. At the same time, the event reinforces Caloundra’s identity as a vibrant, welcoming coastal hub - one that knows how to host, connect and leave a lasting impression.

And this year, it did all of that at scale.

With record crowds, interstate and international visitation, expanded event infrastructure and glowing feedback from both businesses and attendees, it’s clear this event is deeply embedded in Caloundra’s economic and cultural fabric.

If this year is anything to go by, Beachfest is something to look forward to annually.
