Caloundra Hub Wins Hearts and Top Honours

In a resounding notion of thoughtful design and local pride, the Caloundra Community and Creative Hub has been crowned the People’s Choice Award winner at the prestigious Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Queensland Awards held in Brisbane. This recognition highlights the project's design excellence and underscores fostered community connection.

The People’s Choice Award is a particularly meaningful accolade, it’s not decided by a panel of experts, but via a public voting process. This year, voters across Queensland were drawn to the Caloundra Community and Creative Hub’s vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking design. The project stood out among 47 entries, capturing attention with its blend of creativity, accessibility, and community engagement.

Located in the heart of Caloundra, the hub is more than a physical space, the landscaped architecture will be used to empower and connect people. From its inception, the project was designed to be a place for everyone, artists, families, entrepreneurs, and visitors alike.

The Caloundra Community and Creative Hub design is an example of how landscape architecture can transform urban spaces into dynamic cultural destinations. The design integrates open green areas, shaded gathering spots, and flexible event spaces that encourage interaction, creativity, and relaxation.

The hub’s layout invites exploration and participation. Whether it’s a weekend market, a pop-up art installation, or a quiet afternoon under the trees, the space adapts to the needs of its users. It’s this versatility and community-first approach that likely resonated so strongly with voters.

Winning the People’s Choice Award is another feather in the cap for the award winning town, it’s a boost for Caloundra’s cultural and civic identity. The hub has quickly become a focal point for local events and a symbol of the town’s evolving creative landscape.

This recognition also places Caloundra firmly on the map as a leader in community-driven urban design. It sends a clear message: when you invest in spaces that reflect the values and aspirations of the people who use them, the results are powerful and lasting.

The Sunshine Coast had a strong showing at the AILA Queensland Awards this year, with several projects earning accolades. The Caloundra Community and Creative Hub’s win is particularly special because it reflects the voice of the people. It’s a celebration of local, collaboration, and the power of place-making.

Congratulations to the Caloundra Community and Creative Hub team, and to the people of Caloundra, whose voices helped secure this well-deserved recognition.
