14 reasons to spend Easter in Caloundra

Screens off kids, it’s time to egg-splore! With the Easter Bunny delivering the goods and the temperature beginning to cool, the autumn school holidays are the perfect time to get out and about in Caloundra.

Packed with plenty of free and low-cost things to do, our school holiday guide includes Caloundra’s best offerings for keeping the kids busy on their break. 

With so many options, you best hop to it. Start planning now and remember, places are limited for some events, book early to avoid disappointment and be sure to check for public holiday closures. 

1. Free Family fun + Movie under the Stars
A cruisey free family friendly event is planned with a market, delectable food, kids activities, and a Movie under the Stars! Grab your free ticket here.

2. 50th Anniversary: Surfing Comp for Pa & Ma
Easter long weekend says to us: family time, good food, relaxation and soaking up the sun. At the Pa & Ma Bendall surfing competition, happening at Moffat Beach, you can do just that! And you can add in the action of the huge annual surfing contest right here in Caloundra. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the competition, making it an extra special event filled with nostalgia and a celebration our surfing culture that has thrived in our community for what seems forever. The Festuri festival will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday, bringing together our vibrant multicultural communities on the coast.

3. Arty Family Outing
Take the chance to check out the 40 finalist works from Sunshine Coast artists in the Local Contemporary Art Prize 2024. Vote for your favourite in the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by The Friends Regional Gallery and Geoff Lyons Solicitors, for a chance to win a gallery store voucher.
Plus, be inspired by the regions budding artists in the Local Student Art Prize exhibition.

4. Pour n Sip
An afternoon of bubbles and Easter candle making in the heart of Caloundra. The team at Blushing Ivy host this go-to-girly arvo, the perfect bonding experience as you create a little work of art and let your creative side show! Limited spots available.

5. Go Fishing!
Head along the purpose built boardwalk along the Esplanade at Bulcock Beach for a spot of fishing. It's family friendly, clean and tidy (the kids don't have to get wet and sandy!), and you're within walking distance from accommodation providers, restaurants and cafes. If you are an avid angler, or Barry the beginner head into Caloundra Fishing World for some tips and tricks that you can keep up your sleeve, along with grabbing some of the best bait on the Coast. Dave and Orry will hook you up (literally) with cost effective combos, and kids kits. If you're just testing the waters hire a setup for $20 for 24hours. From the boardwalk you can snag Bream, Flathead, Trevally and Moses Perch.

6. Try your luck at Easter Raffles
The RSL Club host the exciting Easter raffles with 78 quality chocolate hampers to be won across three big days at the exquisite venue. Tickets are on sale from 4-6pm on the day of each draw with draws commencing from 6.30pm. Check out caloundrarsl.com.au for more. You've got to be in it to win it!

7. Spin, twirl, and glide: Easter Roller Skating
The fully supervised airconditioned family skate center is open for Easter skating fun!

8. Cruise through the Markets
Enjoy a Good Friday sunset over Bulcock Beach at the Twilight Markets from 5pm on Friday 29th. Bring your fam, and don't forget the fur babies (but please ensure you remember to be pet responsible and don't forget their leash!)
The Sunday Street Fair will be a hive of activity with fun family fun, great tunes, and, it's a great opportunity to head to your favourite cafe for breaky in town. Browse through the plethora of local vendors in Bulcock Street, and enjoy our vibrant boutique retail strip.

9. Catch a Flick, or two
Visit Caloundra's historic gem that has a touch of luxury! And you can even order a bevvy!
Watch Kung Fu Panda 4, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, Bob Marley: One Love, or all of the above with multiple visits!

10. Turtlely terrific
A fun opportunity for primary school aged children to discover more about turtles, run by the TurtleCare Sunshine Coast volunteer team.
Learn about the turtles who nest here on the coast, their lifecycle, biology and fun facts.
Help save our turtles and find a solution to pollution. Bring your curiosity and creativity.
This event will include both indoor and beach activities with some teamwork required.
All participants will require adult parent or guardian attendance throughout the session.

11. Create a Work of Art
Kids Art Attack puts a spotlight on scratch art using oil pastels and black paint. Budding artists can learn to create their own. So be ready to have some fun and a little bit messy. Suitable for children aged four to 10-years-old. Drop-in style activity. $2 per child.

12. ClimateWatch Guided Walks
Come along to a guided ClimateWatch Trail walk happening in Caloundra these school holidays.
Become a citizen scientist and contribute to understanding how climate change is affecting our environment at the guided walk along our local ClimateWatch Trail. To participate you will need to download the ClimateWatch app on your smart device. Free. Booking required.

13. Complete a Library Workshop
From prehistoric adventure with dinosaurs, volcanoes and velociraptor themed activities, to scavenger hunts, and board games for all interests, all ages are catered for at the Caloundra library these school holidays. 14. Adventure Sunshine Coast
Looking to get outdoors with the family these school holidays? For more than 250 walking, running, paddling, cycling, mountain biking and horse riding trails on the Sunshine Coast, visit Council’s Adventure Sunshine Coast website and choose your next adventure.

15. Pack a Picnic
Why not pack a cut lunch and visit one (or many!) of Council’s marvellous parks and gardens, make a splash at a Council aquatic centre, hone your skills at a Council skate and bmx park, or snap a selfie along Council’s scenic Coastal Pathway.
