Community groups share in record multi-year event funding
Planning can begin for successful festive and commemorative grant applicants, with another round of funding now open.
They are as unique and special as the people and places they serve and now 36 community groups from across the region will share in more than $335k over three years, to help celebrate the festive season and commemorative events.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the region’s many communities deserved to celebrate special moments in a way that was meaningful to them.
“Our Festive and Commemorative Events Grants funding supports community organisations to deliver events at Christmas, New Year, Australia Day, Anzac Day and Remembrance Day,” Mayor Natoli said.
“This year we received and accepted many wonderful multi-year funding applications from organisations keen to deliver long-standing and much-loved community events and services alongside applications from highly localised events.
“I look forward to seeing these events continue to grow over the years to come.”
Funding for single-year events now open
Festive and Commemorative Events Grants provide up to $15,000 for regional events and up to $3,000 for local events.
Applications for 2024 Christmas/New Year and 2025 Australia Day events are now open and must be submitted by 31 October 2024.To find out more and to apply visit Council’s website
New look New Year’s Eve for 2024
Mayor Natoli said Sunshine Coast Council would deliver two regional events this New Year’s Eve.
“We’re providing a family-friendly fireworks display at 8.30pm in Mooloolaba and a new youth focussed event targeted at 13 to18-year-olds in Alexandra Headland,” she said.
“Council is working with a community youth collaboration to deliver a safe, low-cost, ticketed event with free transport options.”
Farewell and Thank you Rhonda
“Also, we say a huge thank you and a farewell to Rhonda Pattinson, who for the past 20 years has organised the community New Year’s Eve event in Caloundra,” Mayor Natoli said.
“Rhonda has done a wonderful job providing the joy this community event brought to thousands and we wish her well in her next chapter.
“Council will continue to provide funding for fireworks in Caloundra and encourages community organisations who wish to step into Rhonda’s shoes to apply for festive funding.”
