Local Jiu-Jitsu stars bring home national glory
Caloundra’s next generation of sporting stars has put the town on the national stage, returning from Australia’s biggest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament with an extraordinary medal haul.

Fourteen local children and teenagers from SJJA Jiu Jitsu Academy in Caloundra travelled to Melbourne over the weekend to compete at the Australian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, a premier event that attracted more than 3,000 competitors from across the country. And they certainly made their mark.
The team delivered an outstanding performance, bringing home an incredible 20 medals, including nine gold, five silver and six bronze.
Behind each medal was months of training, early mornings, perseverance, and dedication, showcasing not only athletic skill but also the values of discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship that martial arts help foster.
For many of the young competitors, the tournament represented an opportunity to test themselves against the nation's best. Facing some of Australia's strongest talent, the Caloundra athletes rose to the challenge, demonstrating confidence and determination on the mats.

The results are being celebrated as a significant achievement for both the students and the local Caloundra business SJJA Jiu Jitsu Academy, highlighting the strength of local sporting programs and the opportunities available for young people to pursue their passions.
While the medals are impressive, coaches and families say the experience goes far beyond podium finishes. Competing at a national championship level builds confidence, creates lasting friendships and teaches valuable life lessons that extend well beyond sport.
“To walk away with 20 medals from a tournament featuring more than 3,000 competitors is incredible, but the real win is seeing these young athletes grow in confidence every time they compete.” Owner/Head Coach Maverick Santos.

The success story also shines light on the supportive community behind these young athletes, from parents and volunteers to coaches who dedicate countless hours helping students develop both on and off the mats.
As the team returns home with national medals around their necks, there is plenty for Caloundra to celebrate.
Congratulations to all 14 competitors on an exceptional achievement and for representing Caloundra with pride on one of the biggest stages in Australian Jiu-Jitsu.
